The issues of workforce development have taken on a national focus with prominent organizations across the country, such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the Association of Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), and the Annapolis Coalition, collaborating and taking action over the critical issues surrounding addictions treatment and recovery services. They are addressing issues including recruitment, staff retention, and adoption of best practices in a variety of innovative ways. Environmental surveys and scans have been conducted, educational and training opportunities are being presented and recommendations for solutions have been released.
